Gethin Jones takes part in vehicle recovery training with REME in Afghanistan

Gethin Jones is in Afghanistan to highlight the importance of Remembrance.

Remembrance Week celebrates the courage, emotion and sacrifice made by thousands of people from all walks of life and from all over the UK. Presenter Gethin Jones explores the unheard personal stories of people whose lives have been touched by war, from World War One to recent modern-day conflicts including the Falklands, Northern Ireland, Palestine and Afghanistan. War veterans, active service men and women as well as stories from civilians and families form the heart of this series.

In this episode Gethin meets the REME, the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, a team of specialists who’s job it is to maintain the British vehicles in Afghanistan.
With almost 3000 British vehicles in Afghanistan, it’s a full time job to keep them on the road and sometimes that means fixing them in the middle of a Taliban fire fight.
Gethin is put through his paces as he takes part in a vehicle recovery training exercise. Recovering a vehicle in the intense heat and winds is hard enough but it has to be done quickly – in reality any vehicle that is out of action can make the whole convoy sitting targets until they get on the road again.
