Horseshoe Crab Reproduction and Survival
Horseshoe crabs can survive until the next tide as long as they can keep their gills moderately damp. Each female lays up to twenty clutches of several thousands eggs that are are the same size as caviar. Such a vast quantity ensures its survival even though only a few get to hatch.
