The science behind make-up
Science presenter Rani Price meets Pauline Ayres, a scientist who helps to develop new make-up products for the cosmetics industry. Whilst getting a makeover, Rani learns about the ingredients that go into the products. Pauline explains that a knowledge of biology (the skin) and physics (reflection of light) are both very important. Rani looks at crystals of mica, which can be ground to different sizes and then coated to produce finishes that sparkle or shimmer. Pauline also describes her science education and career motivation.
