The film starts with the invasion of Poland by German forces in 1939 and gives some context for why Hitler ordered the attack. However the main focus of the film is the story and fate of a young Jewish girl called Rutka Laskier. Carefully selected WWII archive along with voices from modern Poland help to tell her Holocaust story. The camp at Auschwitz is featured and the film shows some of the harrowing displays that have been left as evidence to remind us of what happened there.
