Debussy, world music and impressionism
The World's Fair in Paris in 1889 inspired Claude Debussy to move away from traditional conventions and to explore other cultures, notably Javanese gamelan. The pentatonic scale and the use of the damper pedal to create overlapping harmonics are also demonstrated.
