The Catherine Palace

Dan travels to the Catherine Palace, just outside St. Petersburg. Another former royal residence, it is now home to the greatest challenge in mounting the Houghton Hall exhibition: a vast canvas, once owned by Sir Robert Walpole, is today mounted in the ceiling high above the main staircase. Dan has come to see the painting removed… a deeply delicate task.
