The Science Behind Vitamins and Minerals
Graphics, interviews, food experiments and commentary shows the importance of vital micronutrients -vitamin and minerals in a healthy diet, their rich food sources, and their function in the body. Case study of west end theatre star Savannah Stevenson illustrates how nutritious food packed with vitamins and minerals is vital for her energy and for general good health (clear skin, strong nails, strong teeth). The importance of a varied diet is emphasised to give a good supply of minerals, such as Calcium and Iron and vitamins A, B, C. Micronutrients are usually only needed in small amounts (micrograms) so they are too small to see. A food experiment shows how red cabbage can be used as an indicator or dye to show how much Vitamin C is in food.
