How to write a recount
Michal Rosen models how he organises his own writing so that it is the best it can be. Reconstructing a past experience in a range of ways is discussed, for example a real life experience or pretending to be somebody else and recounting a historical event. A range of planning skeletons are presented – timeline with notes and a picture to follow. Michael Rosen demonstrates how he reads his work aloud in order to edit and draft. He explicitly explains that recount writing should have a beginning, middle and ending. He also demonstrates how pupils can use emotive language to make their writing more interesting. Keywords and examples are presented on the screen to support pupils writing this genre.
