How reliable are crime statistics?
In recent years the statistics show crime has been coming down, but not everybody believes it.
A third of us don鈥檛 trust the police to record all crime properly - sometimes the police decide what has been reported isn鈥檛 actually a crime, or that the offence is different to the one originally reported.
And there have been cases where officers have deliberately massaged the figures, usually to meet targets.
