Elaine Kidwell: the girl who loved the Guides
Being a Girl Guide equipped Elaine for a vital wartime role and in the years afterwards.Elaine Kidwell believes membership of the Girl Guides taught her important values and skills. Whilst she has held true to these values throughout her life, it was the First Aid skills she learnt which led to her becoming one of the country鈥檚 youngest Air Raid Wardens during the war. In spite of the devastating air raids on her hometown of Swansea, the city remained defiant and people tried to get on with the daily lives. Once the war was over, she returned to the Girl Guides, and continued her involvement with the movement for many years afterwards.
