'Youngsters aren't bothered with the elderly'
Being lonely could be as bad for your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, according to the charity The Campaign to End Loneliness.
A poll carried out by the group suggests one in five people over the age of 60 who feel isolated say they have got no-one to turn to.
The charity is calling on local authorities to "take the lead" in tackling loneliness in older people.
Reporter Jim Reed met 90-year-old Maud in South London and heard how she suffered after the death of her companion.
