'Ticking time bomb' of teacher shortages?
A leading headteacher has warned the Victoria Derbyshire programe that England's schools are facing a "ticking time bomb" of teacher shortages. It comes after new figures suggest the government is failing to meet its recruitment target for trainee teachers in England this year, in a number of key subjects. Vic Goddard from Passmores Academy - who featured in the TV show Educating Essex - also said he had had to recruit teachers from abroad. The Department for Education says teacher recruitment is improving, with 3% more people due to start postgraduate teacher training than this time last year.
We heard from education professionals and Education Select Committee chairman, Conservative MP Neil Carmichael.
