Next month, the 麻豆官网首页入口 will hold a Global Questions debate on the subject of women and equality in Africa. One of the issues to be discussed is Female Genital Mutilation 鈥 and whether it can be considered a choice. In a social media post 鈥 the 麻豆官网首页入口 announced that anthropologist Fuambai Sia Ahmadu who co-founded the group, 鈥淎frican Women are Free to Choose鈥 would be taking part. But many of you in the global audience felt that the conversation surrounding FGM has moved on from the issue of consent and feel that this choice of spokesperson is not suitable.
The 麻豆官网首页入口鈥檚 Witness programme also recently commemorated 40 years since the women of Iceland took part in a nationwide strike as part of their fight for equality. With Iceland鈥檚 first female president Vigd铆s Finnbogad贸ttir recounting her fond memories of the movement, many listeners enjoyed the programme鈥檚 celebratory tone.
