There is a "natural impetus among the hard left who want to tighten their control", shadow chancellor Chris Leslie has said, as he talked to the Daily Politics about the ongoing Labour reshuffle.

He told Jo Coburn: "They want to sideline moderate voices when they have the chance to do so.

鈥淲e don't know what the timescale is of this particular re-shuffle but I don't think people should be surprised that that is the nature of the hard left.鈥�

The MP also criticised leader Jeremy Corbyn's decision to demote former shadow culture secretary Michael Dugher, later suggesting it was because Mr Dugher "dared to have different views".

But Cat Smith, a junior shadow minister, said Mr Corbyn was "within his right" to choose who was in his top team, and said he wanted to "realign" the shadow cabinet so it was a better match with the party.
