Prison, Parking & Play Areas
Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.
Prison officers in Leicester have been taking thousands of days off work due to sickness, stress and recovering from being attacked. That's according to the union representing them. There are 140 operational staff at Leicester Prison and latest figures show that they took a combined 2-thousand sick days last year. That's an average of 3 weeks off work per member of staff. The Prison Officer's Association claims that some of its members are going into work each day not knowing whether they'll come home to their families. The POA is now calling for the Government to "get a grip of the situation" after a series of cuts to the service.
Also, the people of Clarendon Park have given an emphatic NO to plans to introduce a residents parking scheme in their area of Leicester. Leicester City Council suggested the idea in order to restrict the number of commuters parking in front of other people's homes, but now they're thinking again. Around three years ago a similar scheme was introduced in the Narborough Road area and has proved a success in the West End of the city. 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Leicester's Khush Sameja has been back there to find out how its been going.
And, cast your mind back to the playgrounds of your youth - Jo's local park featured a huge slide, twenty feet off the ground with a rock hard concrete surface beneath. If you were unlucky enough to be flung off the roundabout you were hurled into the metal railings nearby and you had to dodge the doggy deposits which littered the area. Thank goodness times have changed and the value of a good quality, well designed playground is now seen as a vital part of any community. In Market Overton in Rutland the old kids playground has seen better days and fundraising is underway to build a new one in the country park at The Lodge Trust - a residential home for adults with learning disabilities. The fundraising committee has teamed up with the trust and the people living there will be fully involved in maintaining and looking after the playground. So Jo met up with fundraisers Lisa Barnett and Claire Munt who showed her around the village.
