Dog Chipping, Desford Lorries & Being Fit After Forty
Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.
Vets and rescue centres across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are reporting a rise in the number of dog owners getting their pets micro-chipped ahead of a change in the law next month. From the 6th of April, all dogs aged eight weeks and over in the UK will be legally required to have a microchip. If you fail to comply, you could face a fine of up to 拢500. Each chip has its own code, which is revealed when scanned by a vet. The code correlates to the animal's owner's details, which are stored on a database. Our reporter Christian Hill has been over to Leicester Animal Aid rescue centre in Huncote to find out more.
Also, do you remember a story we brought you about large lorries rumbling their way through a little Leicestershire village? Well it was happening in Desford, and at the time, we managed to catch a woman trying to stop one. Because of the right squeeze, as well as posing a danger to pedestrians, they've damaged houses in the area. But three weeks on, the problem seems to persist. There are now calls for the Police to start prosecuting offenders, as Bridget Blair reports.
And, leading a healthy life in middle age can double your chances of good health when you reach old age. That's the message from Public Health England's new campaign aimed at middle aged people. Called "One You" it wants to help the over 40s eat more healthily, exercise more, and cut back on smoking and drinking. We hear your thoughts on this.
