Mervyn King: Euro area an 'economic disaster' for Britain
The former Governor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King, has warned that the British economy will be affected by what happens in the Euro area regardless of whether Britain votes to stay in or to leave the EU.
Speaking to Andrew Marr, Mr King said what happens in the Eurozone is "something we should all be concerned about" and that "events all round the globe can affect our economy".
Mr King cautioned that the banking system is "still potentially subject to the sort of runs we saw during the financial crisis" and that while the system was safer now than it was before the crisis, it "is still not safe enough".
