100-year-old Southend tree under threat
A 100-year-old tree in Southend is at risk of being felled over safety concerns. Katy Trevorton is part of the Southend Tree Action Group and believes the London Plane tree on Chichester Road can be saved.
In a statement, Councillor Kevin Buck, the Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Parking at Southend City Council said: “The council have reluctantly agreed to the removal of the London plane tree on Chichester Road due to pedestrian safety and accessibility concerns in what is a busy town centre location. We only remove trees as a last resort and replace where we can in accordance with council policy."
