Eulemur macaco
- Black lemur males are totally black, whereas the females are brown in colour.
- Group cohesiveness is maintained by regular guttural grunts from the dominant female.
- They eat nectar, which makes the lemurs an important pollinator.
- Millipedes are a favourite of the black lemur. Instead of eating them, they bite them to irritate the millipedes into spraying a toxic liquid, which the lemur enthusiastically rubs all over their bodies.
- These toxins, amongst other things, are known to have highly intoxicating effects鈥�
