The wife (although Joe and Pauline don't know that yet). Middle class, from York and Jewish, Sarah is the clever half of the couple. She's studying a Phd and looking forward to a successful career in academia and is hoping that her Jack鈥檚 writing will take off so they can settle down, buy a house and live the dream. Hebburn may not feature in her plans, but she鈥檚 not a snob and really wants Jack's family to like her. If only the same could be said of her mum and dad.
