Tom Sutcliffe
Tom Sutcliffe was born in Yorkshire in 1956. After studying English at Cambridge he joined the 麻豆官网首页入口 as a researcher, surviving serial blunders to rise to the post of editor of Kaleidoscope, Radio 4's long-running predecessor to Front Row.
He left to help launch The Independent newspaper as its arts editor and still writes for the paper as a television reviewer and columnist.
His work as a broadcaster includes several series of A Good Read and a 麻豆官网首页入口 2 series Watching, based on his own book about cinema. He has also presented Newsnight Review - 麻豆官网首页入口 2's arts review programme.
He has presented Saturday Review since its launch. "I love the programme because of its simplicity", he says, "intelligent guests, frequently practitioners of the art they are talking about, responding to the most interesting work the week has thrown up - good and bad. It's great to share an enthusiasm but almost as much fun to defend one when you find out that no one else around the table agrees. Having good sparring partners means your opinions can't get too flabby."
Tom Sutcliffe is also the chair of Round Britain Quiz.
He lives in London with his wife, three children, and the inexorable prospect of a dog.
