a different kinda Sunday

well our electric went out Saturday night and was still out Sunday morning….oh no, I usually catch up on my e mail and blog reading Sunday mornings… I had to find something else and spent time reading some textile magazines a friend has lent me,

that was all I had to deal with but I kept thinking of the many people who are relying on the electric for their heating and cooking, this winter I had been feeling a bit fed up with so many solid fuel fires, fed up with the dust but today I welcomed the warmth they gave me, perhaps I’ll rethink the work and dust,

I was going to post some nice photos last week but the week kinda run ahead of me and I didn’t catch up till now, so here’s a photo of some of my Harris tweed babies, all off experiencing life without me, the yellow one is still in Britain, the purple one is in Australia, the orange one is in Montreal and the blue one is in Pennsylvania, I loved them and a part of me didn’t want to part with them but the house is full enough,

Hope you’ll had a good Sunday,

Ah so it wasn;t just in Breasclete that the wind howled, for a change ... :-) Our power stayed on throughout (though at one point it was obviously 'cycling' up and down - that was probably when you went off), but I'd got the candles, holders, matches, torches, batteries and other powercut paraphernalia out early on Saturday afternoon, putting them where they could be easily found ... I also made sure the heating had provided a full tank of hot water, and that the house was fairly clear of clutter and things to trip over, and that there was a good wholesome pan of vegetable soup made and ready ... I did not try to organise the ducks !!

so does this mean the soaplady is one of the all electric households???

Island threads: educate me, por favor. What I am seeing is painted glass encased in and framed by Harris tweed. Is that correct? How big is each composite frame? Do you do the glass yourself? # As to soaplady, she is all electric (turns on the voltage as the mood suits her). Being from England (originally), she sleeps with the windows open (cold or gale force winds be da*ned!), but she makes sure she turns up the numbers on her electric blanket. I am glad you all survived the wee winds.

Painted glass?? Has this man ever wielded a needle or a hook or a loom (Eff Cee guessing madly but not with a glassy stare) in anger? It's all fabric or I'm a nederlander...

Flying Cat from stitching&sewing

'scuse me! I am (happily) learning. So, it's all natural yarn (eh? no double-entendre intended, scout's honor!). No stained glass. I am equally impressed.

eff cee is right it is alllll fabric but not just any ol' fabric, it's super fantastic Harris tweed handwoven in the outer hebrides, (none of that western isles nonsense), cats purrr as they bask on it's soft warmth

A Knife and Fork yes but Fc really can you see mjc with a darning needle or trying to knit socks ?

All Electric ...?? Tosh !! I would not condemn myself and my pussycats to the whims of the scottish hydro and the weather ...!! I have a calor gas stove, two calor gas heaters, two open fireplaces (but the chimneys haven't been swept for years), and two (count them - *two*) central heating systems - one is LPG and the other is oil-fired ... However as I'm sure you can guess, they are both dependent upon a spark of electricity to work ... What I need is a small generator to supply just enough for the electric switch ... Perhaps next year ... :-( As to the manner in which I take my repose, I can reveal that two furry hotwater bottles accompany me most nights (no, I'm not talking about the cats, though they *are* there too) ... Also yes, I don't over-use the CH ... and most of the other peoples houses I go into are monumentally too hot for my tastes ... I have a warm, very warm heart ... :-))

soaplady from a seam of high dudgeon ...

*HUGE PURRS* Can I fly over and stay with you soaplady? I get shut in the Sunroom of Eternity overnight with m'Marmalade chum, but to share a biped's bed, and one who has two additional furry hotties......cat heaven! Barebraes, I truly believe mjc to be a virtual Renaissance Biped!

Island Threads: long ago, I had some Harris Tweed jackets. I don't remember pussycats purring on my shoulders though, Harris Tweed or no ... Had more luck with a miner's black jacket (and Greek captain's hat). That's what comes from going to university in mining country. The mind boggles at the thought of what might have happened had I attended a Scottish university!! and "gone native"!!.

mjc from NM,USA

apologies soaplady but 2 central heating systems!!! and donÂ’t you need electricity to run the pump, I have been told central heating systems go off when the electric goes off and why donÂ’t you get those chimneys swept???? depriving your cats of lounging in the hearthÂ…Â….

island threads from lewis

You're right Frances ... I *should get the chimneys swept, and I will do one day ... :-) My house used to be 2 houses ... hence 2 CH systems ...!! and yes, both need elec to work ... :-( FC you may find my cats a little wild, rough and ready for your tastes ... They may well corrupt you ... They have never allowed themselves to be shut in anywhere ... The one time I tried, I came down to a badly-splintered door, and a carpet which had been dragged off the spikey holder and bodily under the door itself ... I didn't do that again ... The noise alone had been enough to wake me up at least once ...!

soaplady from mask of contrition ...
