inspiration

after the last post I thought I would write about the inspiration and how it develops into a full blow work of Art, as I said the inspiration for the Windows was a leaded window, when I went to the source photo and sketch there was not as much colour as ‘I remember’ this made me realise how much other sources were influencing my vision, so this post is mainly photos of my sources of inspiration,

I had no idea Harris Tweed came in so many bright colours. If asked I'd say several shades of bilious green and sludgy brown, but these are vibrant and exciting. Outside influences, apart from estate managers, must have been brought to bear.

I asked IT about this in an earlier blog, i.e. whether she dyed the tweed specially, and also how much fabric she used. The colours are really bright, which surprised me. The natural colours of the tweed are lovely but not suitable for this particular purpose.

I too thought of Harris tweed in muted colours but there are quiet a few synthetic dye colours, Jill it is difficult to say how much fabric I use on the wall hangings because I do not cut up whole lengths of fabric as this would take ages and so make the price very high, the bags of off cuts had lots of long ribbon like lengths and these are cut for the hangings, I first sort them into colours, unfortunately Shawbost mill closed last year,

Thanks for the info, IT. Will you not be making any more of these if you can't get the offcuts? It must have been good fun getting the bags and sorting them out. I was surprised though to see the bright colours. Which colour did they use for the Reebok trainers? :-)
