lewis art club

today (Saturday) was the meeting of the art group, Debbie Cullis gave us a demonstration in pastel painting animals from photos, she gave a good demo but as it took a while legs were aching from standing for so long and most of us just wanted to start our own painting, I had been apprehensive as although I enjoy working in pastels I have never worked from a photo before, nor have I done animals before (well except for a couple of cat drawings),
I had forgotten to bring a photo but Debbie was used to people like me and had brought photos for us to use, I chose one of a group of sheep with long curly horns and decided to centre on the head and horns of the sheep, I like strong shapes and contrasting textures, the soft wool and hard horns, I really enjoyed working the sheep which surprised me as I had not expected too and enjoyed the afternoon, it is always nice when that happens,

Sitting on the bus home thinking of the pastel sheep and seeing sheep on the moors I think I would like to take this further, I think a sheep series might take shape, the cogs are turning.

Did you really have to put that bit in about c*ts? ( and in brackets too, it has been noted IT ) Tws. never forgets

Tws from Lewis Home For Sick C*ts

Using brackets to mention that you had drawn c*ts was too much information. I never forget insults IT

Tws from The factory farm

At least you're counting your *s accurately this time Tws.... The sheeps are very inspiring and no doubt many lovely threads will come out of the drawing. It reminds me of Christina Sargeant's felt wallhangings. (South Ronaldsay, organic smallholding, basic inexpensive hostel accommodation....I can just see IT there...)

Flying Cat from doingmybitforlocalartists

Tws all I meant was that I made some sketches of cats, 3 to be precise, if you read something else in the writing then it is in your thoughts.... I would never insult a feline they are gods remember,

island threads from ness

I never ever forget it IT. Thanks for the reminder... As for tws' thoughts...his brain's for sale I hear, so to the highest bidder go the Thoughts of Tws. Scary.

Flying Cat from polishing Bast

Time to get serious IT and tackle a worthy subject: DOGS. They are worth a sketch, a pat, a kick in the hind (Hey, YOU!!), and even the privilege of going to fetch the morning paper at the top of the driveway (I would like to see a cat do that, whether walking, loping or - shall I say it - flying?!).

mjc from NM,USA

sorry mjc but how can anyone respect an animal that gets the tag 'man's best friend' cats own their owners and that's what I love, independence not servitude, and they don't yap at you when you pass by,

island threads from lewis

No cat would ever be so silly as to fetch a newspaper...we just grin and think "Fetch it yourself you silly sod!" Privilege? Ptui! Mind you, I have a hankering to own a d.o.g. just so I could dominate it and beat it into submission.....

Flying Cat from Cheshire Grin

My brain is no longer for sale F***ing C*t. IT how many doggy pictures have you painted/drawn?

Tws from Firstinthequeuefortheloonow

Have you only got one loo Tws? That really is a sin of emission... As for doggy pics....well...however good (which I think we can take fro granted) there's no need to publish them on a blog!

Flying Cat from a two-loo-hoose

I think that should have been 'for'......

Flying Cat from Low Treck

no doggy sketches only cats and sheep

island threads from lewis

IT is obviously a woman of great good taste...

Flying Cat from an admiring glance

IT doubtless has great taste. However, she does not have any dog probably because she does not get the papers delivered every morning at the top of her driveway. I am not asking for confirmation, IT, I am just telling, so there is no need for you to gulp!! As for sketches: she'll get to dogs in due course.

mjc from NM,USA

I am sure that you need two toilets EffSea, what with all the S ( no that's unfair, I can't put that EffSea does more toileting stuff than most others ) and we don't have bed-spreads from John Lewis's ( or whatever it was that you were boasting of, it's not a pleasant trait, rubbing our noses in it, just because we are from the rougher parts of the city, where a cardboard box was a luxury, sniff, sniff, but did we let it get us down? well yes we did sometimes, but I digress, I better stop or I'll be in mjc length of comment ) or Harrods, you brazen hussy that you are....

Tws from Singleloocroft

Hussy!!!!!! Don't you hussy me you...you...you...FLIBBERTYGIBBIT you!!!
