colonsay

I have visited Colonsay many times over the past 28 years or so and always found the people so friendly and with hearts of gold. I too visit Flora McNeill and May at the Pantry, two islanders who really know how to display Highland hospitality, not forgetting Walter and Ena at Kiloran whose kindness is unequalled. They all deserve a mention in the Queen`s honours list.
Everyone you meet is so genuine and it is always a pleasure to visit the school where the children are so well behaved and give everyone a welcome.

isle of coll

A tribute to the isle of Coll
Rugged island ,stormy seas
Bathed in peace and tranquillity
As I walk your lonely shore
Atlantic breakers loudly roar.
Deserted houses, now in ruin
Conjure dreams of life therein;
Fireside ceilidhs by peat fire flame
Dancing till dawn breaks through again.
Life here may be simple
But you`re sure to find
A welcome sincere from folks who are kind.

Isle of Jura

Jura is a small but beautiful island and well worth a visit. The food at the hotel is second to none and the people are very kind.
I wrote this poem as a tribute to Jura.

Isle of Jura
Jura`s the land where the sun always shines
In the heart of the people so loving and kind.
Though they`ve known hardship and faced many a foe
They pick up the pieces and get up and go.
At Craighouse on Tuesdays they all come and meet,
Have a chat and some music and something to eat.
As they look pit the window accross to the bay
They let all their worries and care fly away.
If you catch the ferry at Port Askaig pier
As you sail o`er the sound you`ll see plenty of deer.
They feed with the cattle on this bonny isle
And if you want to see them just tarry a while.
There`s Jura`s walled gardens with flaura so rare,
Nothing else in the world could ever compare.
The wild Corrievrecken ehich swirls round the shore,
Holds us in suspense as we hear the folklore.
Then there`s the Small Isles which hold you entranced
As you watch the waves beating you`ll see sea horses dance.
The Paps are majestic and capture your heart.
If you come to Jura, you`ll never depart.
Thanks to all the hard work of everyone here
We`ll soon have a care home not far from the pier.

colonsay

Isle of Colonsay KILORAN BAY

Fairest islamd of the West where all care is laid to rest.
Silver sands and wild birds cry bring peace and beauty to every eye.
True wealth is found in friendship true always waiting there for you.
Oh why, Oh why must people rush and close their eyes and ears!
If only they would stop their fuss and rest a whole o`er here.
A rainbow rests upon the hill as little lambs are sleeping,
The night is calm and deep and still and moonlight is acreeping.
The boats tied in the harbour have many a tale to tell
Of maen with courage and ardour who brave the heavy swell
To bring home fish and lobsters and tales of joy and woe
To loved ones who await them with faces all aglow.
Around a cosy peat fire flame, we`ll listen to tales of long ago.
As we look across the bay all our cares just fly away.
Tomorrow is another day. We know not what it brings
But as we close our eyes today thank God for simple things.
Tiny shells and pebbles green make music with the tide,
Kiloran`s breakers set the scene as sea horses take a ride.
Here forever you will find Love and Joy and peace of mind.
