Aryan
(Uday Chopra), Papad (Rahul Dev), Chicken (Purab Kohli) and Mushy
(Akash Saigal) have always dreamt of making a few easy bucks.
One
person who shows them the easiest way, to achieve this, is Mamta
Sekhri (Nandita Das).
Aryan
and his friends place a large sum of money on a bet which is allegedly
rigged in their favour.
But
the whole arrangement goes horribly wrong. It
was money they didn't have in the first place.
So
a helpless Aryan turns to Pandit, the paanwallah who had
helped them place the bet. He directs him to Mamta Sekhri .
The
mysterious Mamta makes a deep impact on Aryan. She offers him a
gun and a photograph for a contract murder (supari).
And
so begins the journey which transforms the lives of these youngsters.
The
boys begin to enjoy their new found power. Misusing
it becomes easy until Mamta puts her foot down and says enough is
enough.
This
results in the death of Chicken. But soon, Aryan's girlfriend gets
shot by the rival gang's bullet that was actually meant for him.
Sick
and tired of this new game, Aryan decides to get out of this rut.
The
only person who can help him is Mamta.
The
rest of the film deals with Aryan's guilt for putting his friends
into this whole mess.
Whether
they want to or do not want to get out forms the climax of Supari.
We
have seen few films of late (Company and Kaante,)
which portrays the lives of the underworld.
But
Supari showcases the same issue in a totally different point
of view.
It
deals with college youngsters who get lured into the underworld
without fault of their own.
As
usual, I always like to warn my readers with such films - that they
should have the stomach to bare the blood and gore associated with
the storyline. Supari falls into this category.
So
be prepared to see flying bullets as the youngsters go on a killing
spree for the sake of money!
Despite
the heavy dialogue delivery in places, director Padam Kumar manages
to make his point in Supari. And that is, criminals never
go unpunished.
Surprisingly,
Supari does come up with two song sequences which catches
your attention. These include Tere Ishq Mein and Chand
Chahiye.
Uday
Chopra 's performance is convincing but can someone tell me why
Rahul Dev (of the Asoka fame) was given the role of a young college
student? He looks too old to play Papad in the film.
Nandita
Das is a great performer, emoting with her eyes throughout the film.
On
the whole, Supari is reserved for those who are keen on movies
belonging to the underworld genre.
It
has all the ingredients to satisfy their filmi palates.
