The
film focuses on Kanji (Abhishek Bachchan) as he returns to his village
from Mumbai city.
He
brings with him a precious gift for his grandfather, a most respected
man in his village as he had worked very hard to bring electricity
to all the villagers homes.
Kanji's
gift is a television set, which also excites the villagers.
Whilst
some of the villagers including Hari Nai, Guru and Abdul get influenced
by programs on television, others such as Pandit are against the
intrusion of new technology into their lives.
So
he influences Thakur against Kanji.
Soon
a romance emerges between Kanji and KC (Lara Dutta). But tension
ensues in their relationship as KC happens to be the sister of Thakur.
He
expects the worse when Thakur gets to know about this union.
But
believes that he can tackle this confrontation with the help of
his friend Surya (Aditya Lakhia), the villagers, and of course with
KC's support.
So
begins a battle between Thakur and Kanji which forms the crux of
Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost.
If
you have seen Aamir Khan's Lagaan, then you will notice that
this film is very similar as far as cinematography and locations
are concerned.
On
the technical front, all visuals in this film appear stunning as
full use of the Rajasthani locales are made. Sets
and costumes deserves full marks.
While
the first half consists of lighter moments, the second half appears
loud with too much happening at the same time.
Despite
this fact there are few sequences which deserves applause. These
include scenes which evoke laughter. Very well executed.
For
those who have already seen the film, will agree the love angle
between KC and Kanji appeares too fast.
KC should have accepted Kanji's love with much thought and time.
Abhishek
Bachchan, does his job with sheer brilliance but due to a weak screenplay,
he will have wait for that elusive box office hit. Lara
Dutta looks glamorous in her role as KC.
They
are both well supported by Aditya Lakhia and Yashpal Sharma.
Considering
that Apoorva Lakhia was the assistant to Aamir Khan's Lagaan,
this film does not live up to those high expectations.
Average
collection is my prediction at the UK box office for this flick.
