This entertainer
consists of three stories running parallel to each other.
We
have the Indo-Pakistan alliance where the terrorists do all they
can to foil this friendship.
Then
there is the scene between a father and his son involving the issue
of an extra marital affair.
Thirdly,
we have the college student who is on the verge of being kidnapped
by the terrorists.
The
film opens on a television show being raided by a group of terrorists
led by Raghavan (Suniel Shetty).
Amidst
the chaos that follows, Major Shekhar Sharma (Naseeruddin Shah)
is shot as he tries to protect General Bakshi (Kabir Bedi).
Mr
Sharma's son, Major Ram Prasad (Shah Rukh Khan) is also seen trying
to tackle the terrorists.
We
then get to learn through a flashback that Ram Prasad is actually
the illegitimate son of Major Shekhar Sharma.
Unable
to accept this extra-marital affair, his wife (Kiron Kher) leaves
her husband with their baby son, Laxman.
So
on the verge of death, Major Sharma wants to see his family reunited.
The
film then focuses on General Bakshi who has a daughter, Sanjana
(Amrita Rao). Her life is in danger due to the terrorists. She studies
in the same college as Laxman.
So
Ram Prasad aim is to fulfill his dad's wishes and protect Sanjana
from being kidnapped.
He
sets off to St Paul's college where he goes undercover as a student.
Initially
Ram is not accepted by the trendy looking teenagers. He is regularly
picked on by a teenage lad, Lucky (Zayed Khan).
As
usual, Ram wins everyone's love on the campus without realising
that he himself has given his heart to Chandni (Susmita Sen), the
chemistry teacher.
The
film is full of funny moments which include characters like the
'spitting' physics professor (Satish Shah), the Hindi teacher (Bindu)
who cannot pronounce her English words and the college headmaster
with a short memory.
Initial
half of the film is full of fun and laughter whilst the second half
becomes serious as it concentrates on the terrorists leading to
a well executed climax.
Debutant
director, Farah Khan has certainly come up trumps with her first
film. There is never a dull moment. The movie keeps you entertained
throughout.
Main
Hoon Naa also scores top marks on the technical front including
Anu Malik's musical score and brilliantly shot scenes, further adding
gloss to the narration.
Shah
Rukh Khan is on top form once again whilst Zayed Khan has come leaps
and bounds since his debut in Chura Liya Hai Tumse.
Susmita
Sen looks ravishingly beautiful making her presence felt in each
and every frame she was in.
This
includes the song sequences including the qawali number which
will go down very well with the audience.
Overall,
Farah Khan has given us a wholesome Bollywood entertainer appealing
to all ages.
This
film will entered the UK top ten charts at number 7 during its opening
weekend.
It
is likely that this film will end up being the highest earner at
the UK Box office to date this year. Not to be missed!
