Norman Wigley was project manager at the time:

"In September 2008 we were lucky to have a collection of cine-film made between 1971 and 1978, passed to us by Mr Eric Smith, a retired teacher form Norfolk Secondary School.

"Eric was a prolific amateur cine-film maker and he took film of his family from around 1947 to quite recent times.

"Among Eric's collection were some films he made at听Norfolk Secondary School in the mid 1970s, to involve the kids in a project as part of their English studies - writing storylines, scripts etc. These films were acquired by the Yorkshire Film Archive."

Dead Easy

"One of the feature films screened at the Showroom was 'Dead Easy.' It features two young lads stealing a teacher's car from school, being chased by the teacher and other kids in the school mini-bus, then a chase on foot across the the moors before one of the bad lads got his come-uppance by falling over a cliff (!)

"The other films were about a school Easter Bonnet parade, and a school holiday trip to Scotland.

"Eric saved a copy of the booklet made for the school trip which contained the names of all the kids and teachers who went. We invited people who were involved in the films to a special screening at The Showroom Cinema in 2008 and we had a great turnout.

"The audiences were retired staff, former pupils and their families; many of whom had not met for many years, and most had not seen the films for many years - if ever.

"Eric Smith's intended musical soundtrack for the drama film 'Dead Easy', was originally prepared at the school on a reel to reel tape - and we were able to play it at the screening for the first time ever."

Reunion

"One of Region on Film's volunteers Karen Marsh spent hours tracking down the people who'd appeared in the Norfolk School films and she succeeded in locating the two 'stars' of Dead Easy. They turned up to the screening, unbeknown to Eric.

"It was a wonderful moment when they met again for the first time in 36 years.

Myers Grove film

"Yorkshire Film Archive has another film in their collection about Myers Grove School. It was made in 1970 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the school in 1960.
