This is the second consecutive season in which Sturm Graz and Sporting CP are facing each other in Europe – they played twice in the UEFA Europa League group stage, with Sporting winning both games – 2-1 away and 3-0 at home.

Sporting CP have only won one of their seven away major European competition in Austria (D2 L4), although their one win was at Sturm Graz last season in the UEFA Europa League.

Sturm Graz (23y 359d) and Sporting CP (23y 362d) are two of the three sides with the youngest average age of their starting XI in the UEFA Champions League this season, with only RB Salzburg (22y 112d) having a younger XI than those two.
