1964: Alfred Hitchcock thought Psycho was 'amusing'
In 1964 filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock told 麻豆官网首页入口鈥檚 Huw Wheldon that he intended his film Psycho to be seen as tongue-in-cheek.
Speaking on the 麻豆官网首页入口 programme Monitor he said: "The content, as such, was I felt rather amusing and it was a big joke. I was horrified to find some people took it seriously."
The 1960 classic film was "intended to cause people to scream and yell" said the director but in the way that a switchback railway - an early form of roller coaster - might.
"Because you want them to get off the railway giggling with pleasure," he said.
