1975: Queen opens first UK oil pipeline
The Queen formally opens the UK鈥檚 first oil pipeline on 3 November 1975.
The pipeline serves the Forties Oil Field 110 miles east of Aberdeen, where the 拢500,000 ceremony is held.
British Petroleum (BP) discovered the oil field six months previously. The Queen inaugurates the flow of oil by pushing a gold-plated button at BP鈥檚 control centre.
