Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú World Service is funded through a Grant-in-Aid from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), allocated as part of the Government's Spending Review process.

Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú World Service has complete editorial and managerial independence; however it reports performance against a number of measures agreed with the FCO annually as part of the accountability process.

These measures support Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú World Service's aim to be the world's best-known and most respected voice in international news, thereby bringing benefit to the UK, the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú and to audiences around the world.

Key objectives for the current spending review period are:

• to maintain radio audience levels in an increasingly competitive market, and to increase the audience overall through the newly-launched television service in Arabic;
• to increase impact for the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú in the Middle East by extending the Arabic television service to a full 24-hour offer;
• to launch a Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Persian television service, to reach audiences in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

In support of these aims, a number of targets were agreed with the FCO.

• click Target: To reach an estimated global audience on radio and/or television of at least 190 million adults weekly.
• click Target: To deliver a high-quality multimedia news service in Arabic for and about the Middle East, including a 24-hour television service.
• click Target: To deliver a high-quality multimedia news service in Persian for Iran and Afghanistan, including an eight-hour television service.
• click Target: To increase the impact of the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's online offer through high-quality, on-demand multimedia services in key languages - 4.5 million weekly users; 60 million weekly page views (text and audio); 1.3 million weekly video views.
