Alison Balsom

Alison Balsom has cemented her reputation as a distinctive young artist and one of classical music's great ambassadors. In 2006 alone, Alison picked up both a Gramophone and a Classical Brit Award, performed at the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's Last Night of the Proms, and released her latest album, Caprice, to great critical acclaim.

An EMI Classics exclusive artist, Alison performs a wide range of repertoire on both modern and baroque trumpets. Working regularly with leading orchestras and conductors, Alison also has a vigorous recital programme and performs with her own 'Balsom Ensemble'.

The 06/07 season saw Alison make her New York debut at the Town Hall, alongside performances at the Prague Spring and Chicago Ravina Festivals, and concerto performances with the Japan Philharmonic, SWR Freiburg and Cincinnati Orchestras.

07/08 highlights include concerto performances with the LA Philharmonic, Milwaukee Symphony, Chicago Sinfonietta, Camerata Salzburg, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Opera National de Bordeaux and Orchestre de Paris.

Alison studied trumpet at the Guildhall School of Music, the Paris Conservatoire, and with HÃ¥kan Hardenberger. Alison was previously a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Alison was a concerto finalist in Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Yong Musician of the Year in 1998 and received the Feeling Musique Prize for quality of sound in the 4th Maurice André International Trumpet Competition. She was recently appointed Visiting Professor of Trumpet to the Guildhall School of Music.
