Negatives with pronouns

Using negatives with pronouns

Negative structures usually go around not only the but also any that comes before the verb. For example:

  • Je 苍鈥y habite plus. 鈥 I do苍鈥檛 live there anymore.
  • Il ne 尘鈥檃 pas vu. 鈥 He did苍鈥檛 see me.
  • Nous 苍鈥en avons pas besoin. 鈥 We do苍鈥檛 need it.

Where a verb is followed by an the pronoun follows the other rules of position and goes just before the infinitive. For example:

  • Je ne voudrais pas en manger. - I would苍鈥檛 like to eat [any of] it.
  • Nous 苍鈥檃imons pas y aller. - We do苍鈥檛 like going there.
  • Elle ne va pas lui dire la r茅ponse. - She is苍鈥檛 going to tell him the answer.
