Rocks on the surface of the Earth can be worn away by the weather into interesting shapes. Rocks can be soft or hard. Soft rock is more likely to be worn away by the weather over long periods of time. Some rock shapes are formed over millions of years.

Students could be given research materials to find interesting rock formations from different countries in the world. Taking one example each, from a different country, students could either create a clay model of the rock formation, or trace or colour in a picture of it. Students could label their models or drawings and bring them together to create a ‘rock display’ for the classroom.
