Aled

Well, England are through by the skin of their teeth. But then, you don鈥檛 need me to tell you that, I鈥檓 sure it鈥檒l be discussed on countless other blogs. What I can tell you with authority though is that a) the underground system in Stuttgart doesn鈥檛 have any London style barriers and you can walk on and off platforms at will, b) even the gay bars in Germany have massive plasma screens showing all the games and c) a certain fast-food multi-national corporation don鈥檛 do Quarter Pounders in Germany, or at least the one I went to didn鈥檛.

stuttgartcentre.jpgThese things I discovered during Aled鈥檚 alternative day to football in Germany. It wasn鈥檛 easy to be honest, especially as every bar I chose to go to was showing the game (see above), the English pretty much had Stuttgart city centre as theirs and I 鈥渟tumbled鈥 on the square that was showing the England game on the big screen and saw more white, red, beer bellies and鈥 beer than I鈥檝e ever seen before.

The day started nice enough when I discovered a water park which had lots of pools, and loads of great hydro-therapy style jets. Even had (what I鈥檇 imagine was) a fully functional spa with 5 saunas, plunge pool, steam room and a row of sunbeds. But I wouldn鈥檛 know any more than what it said on the layout out front because I didn鈥檛 stay too long - on discovering that Germans have no problems in having a mixed nude spa area as part of their council pools. My eyes were bombarded in the first second or two with more images of droppy boobs and saggy skin than I鈥檝e ever seen (and that was just the men). I must have looked like such a prudish British person as I about turned and leapt back out. If it鈥檇 been a room full of beautiful bodies maybe things would have been different but there was no fear of that!

Hello too to those remarkable souls who recognised me. It doesn鈥檛 normally happen , so for it to happen while in Germany was pretty weird. Maybe shouting your mates to come back to see who you鈥檇 met while I stood there showering naked might not have been the best timing, especially as your mates reactions was that I didn鈥檛 look as gay as I sound on the radio. I apologise, I must remember to wear those pink hot-pants and cowboy boots during future public showers from now on.

I then met up with the few from the team that were lucky enough to see Beckham bend-one (or something) in person and we drove home. Now that England have gone through, we鈥檒l stay in the south till Friday then head back up North to broadcast from the Army barracks where we鈥檒l wait and see whether England can get through one more round. The cons are that we lose our own studio and work in someone else鈥 the pros are that there are shops up there with a great pool for me to continue training for Sport Relief and a very well equipped army gym to work out in. Now, must remember my hot-pants and cowboy boots.

Hi Aled, As much as I love you....I have to get something off my chest....your world cup guides constantly piss me off!!

You always get facts wrong, especially about non-EU (read white) countries!

You called Ghanians- Ghananans! and then said Trinidad and Tobago was in Africa!! What?? I hate when people are so ignorant.

This hurts me cause i think you are ace! but hey.....love is tough.

Aled,

Your priceless! Love your blogs and your work on the show. I have to agree with your new shower friends ;-), you looked very different from what I thought you would when I first saw your picture on the website a few years ago. I don't think I'll be able to match your voice and face in my head until I see you talking on telly. It was the same with Chris and Dave. I love the show and bizzarly can't get enough of it, I check out the website and even listen again online! I must be very sad or mad.

Hi Aled!

When me and a group of 10 girls visited Berlin a couple of years ago we were convinced the trains were free! We couldn't find where to buy tickets, or barriers to put tickets in, so we just used and abused the trains as we liked! We told everyone back home in the UK about the wonderful free transport system, only to discover that we had just spent an entire weekend running the risk of huge fines and being told off by scary German police.

Try it if you go to Berlin, its a liberating experience!

We all thought Germany was ace by the way, its amazing where you can fly to for twenty quid return in October!

Keep up the good work babes, loving it!
