As often happens when you work on The Chris Moyles Show our weekend away with Radio 1's newest friends Vic and her 3 mates was a very surreal one. It all started very early, on the train down to be exact where we traveled to our destination 鈥渨ith鈥 Vic our competition winner. There was Chris in 1st with generic-security-man) who's name I can't divulge! (for security reasons obviously)) as Chris doesn't DO standard and the rest of the team including competition winners sprinkled through the rammed standard carriages (as 麻豆官网首页入口 management doesn't DO 1st class for non presenter staff (looking after your license fee!). And there was me again due to some bizarre anomaly also in 1st as my ticket cost less than everyone else' standard tickets! (No, I didn't book it). Oh, and Old Gray Haired Will who was also in 1st because he nicked my seat hoping I'd sit in his in standard seat.

Jocelin had a dog (called Scooby Doo) sleeping under her seat, Rachel and her other half Mr Rachel (who bought his own ticket) was achieving more fun with a bunch of cards than I'd ever seen achieved before, Carrie and Dom were asleep and Natalie (Jo's Ent News reporter and official Newquay Radio 1 narrator) editing reports as we went along.

Plus I was sat and then spoke to Ex Radio 1 DJ and now legend ! And we hadn't even got there yet!

Since then personal highlights for me was the Newquay crowd (who were SO welcoming 鈥 if not slightly drunk), Jocelin copping off (鈥渂ut it's not a one night stand you understand鈥) and my favourite high - by a LONG SHOT - was Westwood's sound clash with Moyles. Brilliant brilliant radio in my opinion and an example of Chris at his best (See photos from Newquay here).

Low points was the return journey that honestly seemed to take forever, (someone please sort out the A30 in Cornwall 鈥 oh, they are) and obviously losing the surfing competition against Carrie was a personal low! I could fill this blog up with excuses as to why I lost it (my right leg gave way before the competition started and I focused on that or the waves didn't help etc etc) but the truth was when the pressure was on I bottled it. With is being such a new sport for me I needed all my concentration to succeed and with nerves and pressure thrown into the mix I couldn't deliver 鈥 and that's a part of the competing so it's no excuse. Away from the harsh spotlight of the show and Carrie's competitive streak the competition was good as it gave me the motivation I needed to learn to surf. I may not be as good as Carrie but I know she's been doing it a lot longer than I have (some of her moves proved that) and I suppose only having 3 lessons and taking Carrie on was a tall order but I'm glad I tried it. I'm just sorry I let Kieran (my surfing instructor) and the .generally down.

Onwards and upwards. Next thing for me now... wakeboarding!

Better go, the return train journey is pulling in after 8 whole hours! If you missed the show you can Listen Again here. Monday morning we'll be announcing the next venue for Radio 1's summer BBQ and who you'll get the chance to go with should you win the competition! We're going to try and get Natalie's pieces on the weekend put up online, I'll let you know where they are once we've done it.

(Monday morning) p.s. I've started to see some of the comments coming in talking about the way the show was done on Saturday. To anyone who wasn't there, we did the show (as planned) inside a restaurant which meant the beach weren't able to hear us and we've had some comments from the people waiting outside that they were disappointed that they couldn't hear the show.

If you were there on Saturday and wanted to hear the show - I'd like to apologise on behalf of the show. This is what happened. Like you, we assumed we would be able to put some speakers outside the restaurant so that if you were on the beach you'd hear the show. When we got there the organisers asked us not to do this saying it would conflict with the tannoy system they were using as a way of communicating with the surfers taking part in the competition. We had SUCH a good time in Newquay that we would love to go back some day. If we do, we'll definitely co-ordinate things better with the organisers so that the beach will be able to hear the show next time.

Hi Chris,

Thought you'd be interested in a picture that appears on the Goole Town AFC web site;
It's a team photo of your dad playing footy with the LUFC ledgends; Billy Bremner, Terry Yorath, Eddie Gray and Rod Belfit (he's less of a legend) and the rest are his mates who are legends from Mount St. Mary's.

Hope you have fun with with this picture and don't foget that Desi O'Hearne (your dads mate) is now chairman of Goole Town AFC so give them a plug - they're through to the next round of the FA Cup!

Cheers

Heard about this blog on the Podcast today while I was out walking the dogs. People thought I was mad while I was chuckling to myself out loud. Surely Dave, you must have better things to write about (I must sound quite hyporcritical though cause i'm writing crap here). Keep up the good work fellas!!

Came down just to see Chris & the show - had visions of a full on live type Radio 1 event was gutted that you spent it locked away in Fistral Blu - with no sound - I was right by the balcony and got the occaissional glimpse of Chris and saw you a few times Aled.

I know it's not 100% Radio 1's fault and it's nice to see an open & honest apology still as a fan since the afternoon shows of 1998 it was a let down.

Hopefully the mighty breakfast show team will do proper live event soon.

The A30 is OK, as long as you follow the natives and only leave late in the evening....avoids all the tourists. Of course it's not really compatible with being up at 3 the next morning for the next show but...

Haven't you a personal helichopper yet?

Hi,

Fantastic weekend in Newquay!!! 7 hour journey (instead of 4) back to Portsmouth though.

Only disappointment.....walking for what seemed forever down to Fistral beach on Sat, and waiting from midday only to find the Chris Moyles show was inside......nothing to hear or see! (There was a brief 5 min appearance with a silent microphone).Very disappointed as a big fan and it had been promoted all week too, i know there were hundreds of people who felt the same.

Oh well....it just meant going back to the pub. :)

Hi - came to see you in Newquay but saw bugger all - what's the point of telling everyone to come to Fistral Beach then locking yourselves in a cafe!?!?!?
