It may have escaped the notice of some but there has been a bit of news in the interim since the last dedicated news post on Friday. At least Monday's thread had a stab at a ps on other topics. Now...?

The political system is in meltdown I am more and more seeing the question posed: "What happens now?", if not so much a priority here by DJ Paxy and da Crue.

If another thread is posted later to address this fine, but I'm going off topic here and now.

It has been said that talk is cheap. Not from where I'm sitting it isn't.

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN DAFT PLATITUDES.

Some of these dead-to-rights numpties are still trying 'the system is rotten and needs to change'... um.. 'defence'.

There is REAL anger across the UK about MPs.

We need less media focus on sensationalism and schadenfreude; more clear factual accounting; a much greater emphasis on POSITIVE ACTIONS.

The REAL anger which 2. states, if no substantive positive correction is made to put things right, and to change the system decisively, will grow, and snowball, and has the very-real potential of being hi-jacked by unscrupulous anarchical groups and developed into civil unrest.

If the angry in Edinburgh broke Fred the Shred's windows, what may be in store for the named an shamed at Westminster? It will only be a matter of time before worse happens to some of our politicians if no POSITIVE REMEDIAL ACTION is taken.

The the over used phrase 'Political corectness gone mad' springs to mind. I shall be switching over to sky news while it is on. The presenters are jumping up and down in mock horror and indignation at the MP's expenses. Yet, isn't this just as much an abuse of licence payers money when it could be spent of REAL news stories?

Continuing on from yesterday's posts, we still have real ANGER across a broad cross-section of the viewing public; yet we are to be treated to more trivia on Newsnight tonight.

The problem is our English Tolerance. All seem to be dissatisfied but nobody seems able or willing to propose an action plan.

The French would be out on the streets by now, but we have abandoned the Westminster streets to a foreign protest group (who seem to be treated more benevolently than home-grown protesters.)

I suppose we should at least all write to our 'honourable' MPs, asking them to 'play-the- game, old chap' and stop investing our money in their private property empires, free overseas jaunts with the missus, etc.

To be really radical and terribly un-British, may I suggest that all who are frustrated should make a firm resolution NOW, to cast their next vote for one of the minor parties that do not support or turn a blind eye to (i) the overcrowding of our small island; (ii) the proposed building of millions more houses for immigrants; (iii) the encouragement of unnecesary and extravagent consumerism; and (iv) growing curtailment of freedoms that we fought two justified wars to defend.

Without a changeover to prop-rep these lesser parties wont stand a chance of forming a government, but should at least get enough seats (both in Europe and Westminster) to rein in some of the above excesses; and will send a protest vote that will clearly demonstrate our anger, and that there is a limit to our tolerance.

We might at least get a few elected members who are motivated to restore some of our better national characteristics, rather than those who have demonstrated their prime interest in personal wealth creation.

What on earth is the point of this ?? Why no Welsh ex-pats ?? Or Scottish people for that matter ?? Is this supposed to be like 'Loose Ends' ?? Or an attempt to find the next Susan Boyle ?

Are we supposed to feel sorry for these people ?? In which case, how on earth is this advancing the cause of 'equality' which is surely best served by treating them like the 99.99999999 of other musicians in Britain. i.e. by ignoring them on Newsnight and covering some proper issues to do with migration without trying to sex it up with fatuous tosh of the 'Immigrants do the Funniest Things to Win Prizes'.

Have the Newsnight team lost the plot? The electoral system and our democracy is in virtual meltdown, people like Tony Benn and others similarly senior are on to impart their experience and wisdom and discuss the issue, and they get cut short for the 'Immigrant Song Contest?' Who cares about this simultaneously racist and completely inane waste of airtime reporting the utterances of nobody D list bands from some god awful 3rd world country. Please!

The duo from from Zimbabwe have a huge advantage - Abba songs have a Sell By date measured in decades, while all the other songs are past resusitation!

I wonder what we will get next week, David Cameron, Gordon Brown and Vince Cable *nearly* presenting their vision for reform of the electoral system and how to increase voter turn out but getting cut off so Bono and the lead singer from Razorlight can delude themselves a little more they can solve world poverty. As if!

Newsnight was really very good tonight and I enjoyed the whole programme. My only complaint is that I wish Jeremy Paxman, who up until then was superb, would not run down other members of the team with underhanded comments about their work.

I thought the Asylum Seekers Song Contest was really rather cleaver and very creative.

Please don't do it Jeremy , be under no illusions some of the young people you picked on tonight have talent and you will pass them on the way down - makes you come over like a school bully .

Ifan Arswydus [great handle !] - In Jeremy's defence he is pro-diversity and practises equal opportunities - he is equally rude to EVERYONE.. which is surely the kind of level playing field for which we are all striving.

Though I maybe row-back from my earlier comment - Newsnight should have a bit of room for 'Nationwide-wide' vibe 'skateboarding ducks' as well as the serious stuff. I'm not saying it should become 'The Daily Show' but ok, a bit of 'light and shade' maybe all right.

Newsnight ??? Surely this would be better shown under another program like "Immigrant Idols got talent strictly maria on ice" or something ?
