Any attack by Israel upon Iran could bring a conventional and or nuclear retaliation from Russia and/or China, either of which could economically and/or physically wipe out Israel, and cause further havoc to any of Israel's allies should they be stupid enough to get involved, including us. China already has massive economic clout with respect to the USA, and Russia is literally on Iran's doorstep. Iran and the USA/Israel know this. What are relevant here are UN Security Council Resolutions and Note, because the resolution is under Article 41 of Chapter 7 of the United Nations Charter, it cannot be enforced through the use of military means Note how effectively tries to change the conditions of the NPT after the fact?

One has to ask why the IAEA is not inspecting Israel, Pakistan or India - that's because they unlike Iran have not signed the NPT! This is why this is victimization of Iran is considered diplomatically unfair/unjust. The NPT is voluntary!

Why would other countries sign up to it after all this?

I read/heard somewhere recently (approx 3/4 months ago) that Iran was pushing the boundaries in Uranium enrichment (can't remember where though, may have been on NN).
The 90% requirement for weapons grade Uranium enrichment slightly underestimates the issue.
I my memory serves, the report stated that Iran had recently reached the important/significant milestone of 25% enrichment. The tipping point, I believe, is somewhere around the 40% mark...afterwhich it's very easy, in production terms, to get to the 90% threshold.

It's certainly a difficult topic. As I keep saying, all I'm really interested in is fairness and I've strongly urged you to look into Rawls and his Political Liberalism on the issue of 'the good' as this practically underlies liberal-democracies' legislation on this matter.

All else is academic. The rule of law is all that matters on these matters. I think you have done us a service by raising t his issue once again, and I hope you will take my advice regarding looking into Rawls (and Dreben's influence). Pursuit of truth using logic is what matters, and that requires fairness and attention to difficult details. I fear we are being manipulated by friends of Israel, and I'm not at all sure that that is in our collective interest. Having said that, Israel is our ally but being someone's friend means not letting them do things which are not in their greater interest. Israel is an infantile/adolescent state.

If Iran is in breach of its own commitments, it would be far better for China and Russia to take them to task for this rather than Israel, the USA etc, don't you think?

As you know for me justice as 'fairness' is bonkers . Fairness demands human sacrifice. One gets the sense Rawls, if he was immortal, would be changing his theory every 10 years. His work seeded with phrases like the 'worst-off' and 'inequality' has the whiff of crypto communism.

I would encourage people to look Good up in the dictionary/thesaurus and write out all the words they find. Then those things that have more of those words are closer to the Good. So all things can be ranked. It is then rational to choose that which has the most good unless that choice is limited by necessity. It does not mean Good is the easiest.

This sort of philosophy is done by people naturally which is why, for example, migrants come to the uk. They probably had no training in philosophy [none necessasry] to understand where the Good is but somehow they managed to rank the countries in their own mind and choose that which in their view had the most good.

Thus the good is the highest and simplest and easily comprehendable philosophy that can become as complex as one has a personal taste for.

there can never be any major confusion over what the good is because anyone can go to the dictionary/thesaurus and examine any topic in the light of those words listed under good and then find out which has more and which less and if they are guided by reason choose the better. But passions [that take something else as the highest idea eg. family, tribe] crowd out reason which is why we can make choices knowing they are not good. So the task for the philospher is to purify themselves from false beliefs or the idols of the mind that seek to usurp the good from its rightful place.
