I have written to my MP on this proposal and received the expected 'party line'.
Like most MPs he always votes with the party irrespective of the views of those who elected him. This is one issue on which my losing Green Party vote at least leaves me free from the Guilty through the Ballot Box charge. How about you?

Hopefully, next time there will be UKIP and other more independent candidates and they will get more votes than the Big 3 traitors, as the electorate feels the frustration and dis-empowerment of voting for MPs who slavishly follow the party dictat.

We all know there is a housing crisis in this country, millions of people denied the basic necessity of a roof over their heads. Is this new system going to address the problem?

Both this government and the last one have been pulling out all the stops to keep the housing bubble well and truly inflated by practising a policy of forbearance for home owners who can't pay their mortgages in order to control the supply of homes coming onto the market and driving down prices.
There is no point in doing that if you are going to encourage tens of thousands of new homes to be built as one cancels out the other.
Maybe this is a clever way round the housing problem for our politicians. This way they can pretend they want more homes built safe in the knowledge that the chance of getting 80% plus of your average nimby residents to vote for any in their area is more or less zero.
And who benefits the most from keeping the supply/demand ratio permanently in favour of high house prices?
The banks of course.

With the lack of focus on items of real concern to our nation, I have summarised the salient points in your link:-

EU/India FTA is 85% a UK deal, being the main and willing target for the Mode 4. Leaked documentation shows that liberalised UK will be taking the bulk of the EU's Mode 4 commitment. The gains will accrue to the international financial firms based in London: UK workers will get the pain.
Financial services investment opportunities overseas will not produce jobs here. But workers will be displaced via Mode 4, especially in a time of cuts. Transnational firms will be able to offer cheap onshore outsourcing, using cheaper temporary migrant labour and be able to supply labour into other firms allowing them to offload all employer responsibilities.
Within the 'capped' UK system for labour migration the government has ensured there are no such limits on the 'intra-corporate transferees’ category in Tier 2 or on the 'international agreements' category in Tier 5. Neither is there any resident labour market test to stipulate that jobs have to be offered here first. In fact both these restrictions are disallowed at the international trade level in respect of Mode 4.

Under the current points system, skilled workers are being brought in and paid minimum wage, which is then made up to a low industry norm with tax-free expenses and no national insurance payable. Thus the UK government is even now encouraging the use of a cheap labour supply that displaces workers here and damages the national economy. Wages are repatriated overseas, the earn/spend cycle needed for recovery is broken, workers become unemployed and the welfare bill increases, employment future for young people is further curtailed and skills transfer are lost for the future.
As trade agreements with Mode 4 are committed to hard international trade law they become effectively permanent thus handing control of UK labour migration to transnational corporations will affect not only present but future generations. Any attempt by any future government to pull back on these commitments will potentially invoke corporate legal action to recover all anticipated profits that may be negatively affected by the government action.
International financial services corporations based in London are proactive in directing UK input to EU trade policy via their lobbying mechanism 'thecityuk' and in Brussels through the European Services Forum. 'Thecityuk' is made up of International Financial Services London, the Corporation of London and the UK Trade and Industry section of the Business, Innovation and Skills Department is closely connected. The secretive Liberalisation of Trade in Services (LOTIS) Committee ensures that UKTI bureaucrats take financial services' own directives into EU trade policy and UK governments ensure that domestic regulation is formulated to fit with this.

They conjecture that we would need a new house every 6 minutes at the rate of immigration we have.

Yes we have never built enough houses here, but come and have a look at Kent. It was once "the garden of England", the only thing it grows now are houses and roads, and many thousands of people. I think we are the most populus county, at around one and half million. My area alone immigration has gone up 800% in 9 years, I wonder where they all live. A lot of the land is grade one agricultural, but that hasn't stopped the building, including on massive flood plains here, that only used to house sheep.

The EU workers when they first came lived in caravans and mobiles and went around on bikes and the work bus and bought value food items. I've watched it all change, and I don't blame them for their hard work, but now they rent or buy houses have posh cars, and shop in the expensive stores, started families, so a huge change in their standard of living while ours collapses.

Just how does a young british person even think of buying a house here, without multiply occupancy, they would need a 30% deposit and that's almost impossilbe for young people to find these days. And that's if they even have a job, with a million young people unemployed I only see trouble ahead. Their wages are frozen and the cost of living rising, they are in a no win situation, unless they can buy a house in Eastern Europe.

@31 I have spent 40 years involved in political and community action, and I have plenty of experience of people who try to hijack and disrupt organisations and forums. It starts with faux anger and dishonest blurring of the boundaries of truth, spuriously justified by the alleged importance of the campaign/battle against the "enemy". The aim is to ramp up the rhetoric and emotionally coerce people into a battle not of their own choosing. One way or another, the result is always betrayal.

I would advise all young people here not to do a degree in anything to do with computer science, it is virtually impossible for young people to do that work here these days, 25% of graduates without work, and as for the lower jobs forget it. It has either been shipped out to one of the Asian countries or the Asians have been shipped in. The funny part being they are not as good as european IT workers, and the work has often to be corrected and updated by europeans! I know of IT workers scrambling around for jobs, mostly contract or part time. No wonder we are not efficient, brings to mind the debaclé of the NHS computer system!

Oh and by the time you reach 50 you are over the hill where programming or system analysis goes!

London is a parasite on the rest of England.It has no loyalty towards or interest in England as a concept.

Jenkins mentions that there is plenty of brownfield due to manufacturing collapse. The most recent collapse was by caused by design and in large has been caused by banks and a desire to see factories replaced by housing for short term fat profits, increasing money supply and using other tools to artificially push up prices to create this bubble, in turn, forcing up wages and therefore making us un-competitive etc. I think banks saw industry as brownfield and not businesses to invest in as many viable businesses (many foreigned owned) that were allowed to go the wall because they sat on 1, or 100 acres. Are there not 850,000 empty homes? Brownfield needs to be saved for industry, unless we move industry to greenfield or land that has never been built on. There is plenty of room for development on greenfield for houses and factories. There is also a problem of people travelling from the city they live in that once hosted there place of work nearby, to travelling many miles to their re-located works in the country. Derelict sites should be brought back into use as new industrial facilities for the re-industrialization of this un-balanced economy, otherwise they have to be developed in the Country.

@56 I'm puzzled, because I agreed with @40 that being like the Gestapo was not one of the things you could criticise the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú for, and my comment was removed, though I did criticise one series in milder terms (which has had plenty of similar criticism elsewhere from others) and requested that Newsnight interveiw the Reith lecturer.

Considering that @2 was not removed, I just wonder what hit the panic button in my comment.
