Pods and Blogs Twitter account - phished.

Post categories:

Jamillah Knowles | 12:51 UK time, Wednesday, 24 February 2010

Hello all,

I have some sorry news.

The Pods and Blogs Twitter account has been subject to a phishing attack. That means that I clicked on a link sent to me via DM and that in turn sent out direct messages (DMs) to all of our followers.

If you get a direct message that says "Is this you???" or "LOL Is this you?" and has a shortened link attached to it - here's what to do -

*Delete the message
*Reset your password

Do not click on the link or you will end up doing the same thing. If you click on the link then a spammer will take over your account and sent DMs to all of your friends too. If you get a message like this and delete it, your account should be fine. If you check your outgoing direct messages and you are sending them, then you need to delete them, let your friends know and change your password.

Changing your password from time to time is good practise also to keep your social networking accounts safe.

I hope that none of you have been inconvenienced by my mistake and that you don't do the same as me. I guess even those of use who spend all their spare time online are still occasionally taken in by the latest phishing and spamming attacks. So keep an eye on your accounts.

Hello there!

You've been telling us about your amazing work on-line and we have been chasing up people who do interesting things with electricity. The podcast is ready and waiting for your listening pleasure and hopefully has something to inspire us all.

If there is a page you are interested in or a character you want to follow up and find out more, this is where you will find all of the links.

dorkbot.gifLast week I escaped the confines of the office and scrambled off to a event in London. Dorkbot is a place where electrically inclined people meet and talk about their projects and creations in a show and tell style. It's fascinating and it's fun. Peter Brownell, the self proclaimed "janitor" of the event told me more about how it came to be and what it is like.

RunRiot66.gifDo hipsters listen to podcasts or is that the realm of the geeks? If you are settled into those stereotypes you may think that the fashionable crowd are unlikely to get into podcasting. To the contrary, Patrick Hussey of hailed us on Twitter to let us know about his listings and podcast site for people who like to go out.
Please note with RunRiot the content is for adults and may contain some strong language.

66e.gifFollowing on from Patrick's enthusiasm for the podcasts, I came across where space science, robots and entertainment come together under the careful curation of Michael Doornbos. Space related fun and fact all wrapped up in multimedia offerings.

Fun for most people whether at a desktop, listening to downloads or heading out this week. As usual, it's more fun for us when you get in touch and we are always chasing up leads offered by the Pods and Blogs audience.

Until next week!

Hello again,

Welcome to another weekly round up of on-line highlights. The podcast is standing by with this week's edition. If there is a page you are interested in or a guest item you want to follow up on to find out more, this is where you will find all of the links.

tnw.jpgTo open with this week, we had a brief chat about Google's latest social activity - Buzz. If you have a Gmail account, you may have already seen this and tried it. There has been a great deal going on questioning the amount of noise, privacy issues and whether or not Google has entered a contender to social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. Patrick de Laive and Zee M Kane of came in to the studio to talk about their experience with Buzz and what they think will be ahead for the web giant's future activities.

Around the world there are organisations working hard to make the web a free and open place. One of the oldest organisations doing this is the . Last week it marked 20 years since it opened up shop. One of the founders is former song writer for the Grateful Dead John Perry Barlow.

jpb.jpgJohn Perry Barlow was on ARPANET when most of us were more concerned with starting school. He saw in those early days that control of cyberspace would become a big issue and so in 1990 with Mitch Kapor, he started the . He took some time out to tell me more about his experiences of Newsgroups in the 80s and what the EFF stands for today.

After a nice long chat with the EFF, that is all we had time for this week. Next week I'll be diving in for some podcast treats and of course, it's even better when we can all share the cool things that happen on the web. If you have seen something that makes you happy online or maybe you are working on something that we should all know about, then please do drop me a line. You can email me at PodsandBlogs at bbc dot co dot uk or come and say hi on Twitter - the link to us should be just over there in the menu on the right. Everyone is welcome.

He told me more about the issues of web standards and getting accessibility sorted out on as many sites, leading to a better chance of equality.

webaxe.gifNew and social media should not be left out of the equation of course. Dennis Lembree makes the podcast about accessibility and has also created a Twitter reader that he says is 100% accessible.

trees.gifThough accessibility should be incorporated into all websites, as usual on Pods and Blogs, it's the things you do that are really interesting. is a blind photographer. He described how a visual medium fors for him and how he presents his photographs on-line.

Below is an example of Vince's elegant work.
