Seven days on Good News

Tris Cotterill | 16:18 UK time, Monday, 9 November 2009

It's the start of another week so in a bit of a homage to Craig David I thought I'd go through what seven days is like on Good News and to make things a bit more complicated our week starts on Friday.

Friday

Yeah, it's the weekend! Erm, no, not quite. With the show going out on Thursday, Friday is the day that Russell and the team have to put together the next show. All week everyone is  reading A LOT of papers and websites and watching A LOT of news on TV. On Friday this is all pulled together into a draft script.

secret_script.jpg
Saturday

All the team get a day off but are still in news gathering mode so if any big stories break we are so on it!

Sunday

Every Sunday we do a dry run of the show to see which bits Russell likes and wants to keep. It's also the first time Russell gets to practice with the clips so we can see what needs to be added in or cut out.

run_thru.jpg
After the dry run everyone goes to get something to eat, chat about the show and plan any extra ideas that may have come up.

Monday

Monday is the day the final script is written up ready for the studio. It's is also the day we film any sketches ready for the show and edit together any mash-ups ready to play to the audience on the night.

Tuesday

It's our day in the studio! The heat is on! Everyone arrives early to go through the show and try out everything before we start filming. We also film any extra sketches than need  special studio effects like a green screen.

read_thru_a.jpg
At 7:30 we start recording in front of our live audience. The show normally takes about 2 hours to record but while the audience leave after that, Russell and the team go into what's called a paper edit. This is where they talk through the whole show and plan what should be in the final 30 mins based on the audience reaction - that's you guys, no pressure!

Wednesday

The show is edited every Wednesday ready to go out on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Three the next day. This is where everything gets put together and sound effects, etc are added. The difficulty is working out which bits to cut out of the show from the studio for the TV.

Thursday

While the final show is sent over to the big Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú VCR ready for someone to press play at 10:30, Russell and the team have already started planning the next one! Because we're a topical show anything could happen at any time so we need to be ready to rumble at any point - go news team!
