Each spring bank holiday at the tail end of May brings another , and this year's literary extravaganza begins today and runs until Sunday 6 June. With the children's Hay Fever festival running parallel to the main event, it's well worth a trip - as there's a lot more on offer than just books. Read more on the festival.

In north west Wales the Beaumaris Arts Festival, which also begins today (and runs until Wednesday 2 June), is celebrating its 25th year. If you're based in north east Wales, meanwhile, the is also set to continue until 5 June.

The is an option for those in the south west, while in the south east the World Village Market will be based in Cardiff Bay's Roald Dahl Plass over the bank holiday weekend, featuring live music and craft demonstrations.

Museums and galleries

Make the most of the free entrance to national museums in Wales, but bear in mind that some exhibits, workshops, classes and car parks will have a fee.

The has some half term events on, including collage and print making. And there are still some places available on the half term arts and crafts workshops at the Glynn Vivian Arts Gallery.

The Artes Mundi 4 exhibition runs until Sunday 6 June at the , so if you haven't seen the works on display yet get there before it comes to a close. There are on offer too. And at , they're making a giant collage - and need your drawings.

In north west Wales the (formerly Oriel Mostyn Gallery) has recently reopened following its revamp with a new a programme of events: read more about it in a previous arts blog post. And in the north east at the the exhibitions of Kyffin Williams' Portraits and Karel Lek's Paintings and Drawings both continue until early July.

Student art exhibitions

It's that time of year again, as the graduating students leave our Welsh universities to return home for a well earned break. Many of the students studying art and/or design courses at colleges and universities are exhibiting their work - here are a few that we know of that could be worth a visit:

Cardiff School of Arts and Design fine art painting student Hannah Jump with her work.

• The begins on Saturday 5 June, and runs until 11 June.
• Students from the foundation degree in art and design at are exhibiting at the Alexandra Road campus until Saturday 29th May.
• Students of fine art at in Carmarthen will hold their exhibition at the Parry Building from 7-18 June.
  

Doctor Who in Wales

Have you browsed our interactive Doctor Who in Wales locations map yet? It contains information on locations right across Wales that have been used in filming the iconic Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú television series. Why not visit some of the areas in question over the bank holiday?

For those of you in the north there's and , which were used as locations in 1976 and 1980 respectively. Further south there's the beautiful , who have a series of events on across the bank holiday weekend.

If you want to be beside the seaside, how about Worm's Head at Rhossili? You can follow in the footsteps of Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Wales weatherman Derek Brockway and take a walk while you're there.

For those in south east Wales, if you're near Newport you could take a leisurely stroll around . And don't forget about the , featuring monsters, props, costumes and much more from past series of the programme.
