The two University of Warwick scientists, Professor Ian Stewart and Dr Jack Cohen, partnered with Terry Pratchett to publish two best selling books, The Science of Discworld and Science of Discworld 2.

On the other hand it's genuinely different to our world, too. The rules of science are different and magic works in Discworld. It's a lot of fun and a very nice mixture.

Starting with Terry Pratchett's Discworld formula the university boffins added leading-edge science research to compare the fantasy with real-world theories.
The story in Science of Discworld II examines what happens when wizards meddle with history in a battle against the elves for the future of humanity.
Into this fantasy, the scientists added real examples of research on the evolution and development of the human mind, culture, language, art, and science.
Chaos theory expert and co-author, Ian Stewart, said:
"The wonderful thing about Discworld is that is resembles our own world so you can have a lot of fun satirising things. On the other hand it's genuinely different to our world, too.
"The rules of science are different and magic works in Discworld. It's a lot of fun and a very nice mixture."
Free talk and signing 30 May The three authors will be giving a public talk on the two books in the University of Warwick's Arts Centre Conference room on Thursday 30 May at 3pm followed by book signing at 4pm.
The last time Terry Pratchett visited the University of Warwick was to receive an honorary degree from the university.
