The Three Spires Musical Society is staging Fame in May of this year at the College Theatre at The Butts - but the show can't go on until they find an actor to play the all-singing, all-dancing Tyrone Jackson.
Fame, The Musical, is - like the film and TV programme, set in New York at the High School For Performing Arts between 1980 and 1984.
It follows the last group of students and teachers to work in the historic building before it closed, tracking the journey from first year to graduating.
The characters in the musical know their school was made famous by hit film and is known as the 'Fame School' - but it's tough for them as they learn that reality and the cinema are far removed.
The characters have to come to terms with life and relationships and during the play the audience sees them begin to understand the need to strive for excellence.
Tyrone Jackson is an excellent dancer - black, sexy and magnetic. He has bad attitude and an ego and is a flirt with a volatile character.
They are tough shoes to fill but the group are certain they can find the right person for the role. Actors need to be black and aged over 16 with a good singing voice and the ability to rap.
The dancing in the production is various, from jazz and ballet to street dancing but no training is required - confidence and the ability to pick up moves quickly is all that's required. Oh - and you need to be able to pick up a female dancer too!
