When Mark Thomas, scheduled to talk about his Export Guarantee Licenses campaign, came to Warwick Arts Centre on 28 January, he reminded - or enlightened - the audience about the broader picture on the possible war with Iraq.
![quote start](/staticarchive/0fd93ac9bd229df17b2cf71c3432c1796ca968d7.gif) Mark's comic slant was in full flow throughout, starting from the very first moment he came out on stage.

The timing was perfect for Mark Thomas to shine.
Mark's comic slant was in full flow throughout, starting from the very first moment he came out on stage.
He identified the students, the Europeans and the Americans in the audience straight away, telling them not to take anything he was about to say personally!
Mark went on from there to evaluate the risks we are currently under - not from the crazy despot leader of Iraq - but from terrorism and life as a whole.

|
He explored the potential risks of a terrorist dropping gas over the West End of London from a plane, deciding for such an attack to be successful the gas cloud to be dropped would need to be the size of France!
He also joked about the UN's search for Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) within Iraq, saying that the age of the items they've found so far means they ought to call in the Time Team!
He also told the audience about his investigation into America's oil obsession.
His descriptions had many laughs, including those at the expense of the experts. He said he met Professor Colin Rhonan, who, Mark said: "...had so many letters after his name I thought he'd fell on a keyboard!"
Having raised the issues Mark went on to talk about some the actions he has taken part in to display his opposition - rallies, graffiti and demonstrations all lent themselves well to funny anecdotes.
His talent for finding humour in the ridiculous and desperate has to be applauded.
