G.I. Bride Couple - a UK wide phenomenon.
But there were many, many children who were G.I. babies who
never met their fathers.

One
of many couples who married following meeting in or around Burtonwood.
Over 6,500
local women became G.I. Brides after marrying personnel from the Burtonwood
Base.

Many couples
met and formed relationships in very short spaces of time as they
didn't know when the G.I. would be moved on - especially when the
G.I.'s were in the Personnel Dispersel Centre.
We
had every evening free and spent that in Warrington, and it
was there that I met a lovely young lady called Edith Jones.
She had an identical sister called Lilian and everyone had
trouble telling them apart.
We arranged to meet again and did in fact every evening, not
knowing when the last night would be.
