Peter Mitchell

My name is Peter Mitchell, born Ashford, Middlesex in 1978. At the age of 16 I came to live in N. Ireland, Currently residing in Belfast. I write poems whenever inspiration hits me although in truth it seems they write themselves. I love to write when I can. I enjoy the poems of Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon, Robert Browning and Seamus Heaney. I also find the lyrics of the Arctic monkeys and Reverend and the Makers amongst others help to ignite my passion for writing.

A Wealth of Ignorance by Peter Mitchell

When the world is uneven and we can't all have some
At the top they take too much whilst the bottom has none
- Of the things that they need so they don't have to struggle.
As long as there's greed, there'll always be trouble.

There's more then enough on this rock to go 鈥榬ound,As long as there's plants left alive in the ground.
But try telling that to the ones who have none
鈥楥ause the world is uneven and we can't all have some.

So remember this as you scoff in your mansions.
There's a world out side beyond your dimensions.
Whilst they're only starting, your race is run
鈥楥ause the world is uneven and we can't all have some.

There's no heirs and graces, just impoverished places
Robbed of their resources, It's horses for courses -
You've worked hard for your wealth, was it fairly won?
When the world is uneven and we can't all have some.

Have you worked harder than a woman and child
- Who trek just for water for mile upon mile?
Though baking hot deserts, beneath an undying sun.
The world is uneven, so we can't all have some.

So don't you dare cry when you break a nail
Do you feel their pain when their harvest fails?
Tears precious water, can't afford to be shed
As the world is even and half of it is dead.

When good people are shat on, ignored and spat on.
And the rich pass their wealth to their kin like a baton
- As the relay race ends before it's begun.
鈥楥ause the world is uneven and we can't all have some.

It's not who you are, it's where you were born.
That decides if you eat from the dusk 鈥榯ill the dawn.
This sliding scale, is unfair and not fun.
As the world stays uneven and we can't all have some.
