Eurovision Song Contest 2010 – Josh Dubovie

Josh Dubovie

From the age of nine, Josh has performed with StageAbility, the after-school stage club.

When he was 15, he was given the part of Enjolras in the school production of Les Miserables. As Josh had never sung before he went to see a vocal coach. He instantly fell in love with singing swing and his coach encouraged him to put on showcases of his music.

Josh, 19, believes he has his mum's voice and his dad's confidence and, pre-Eurovision, he was performing professionally at charity evenings, festivals and sports events up and down the country.

He says that his mum's voice is "amazing", but she was always too shy to perform outside of the family living room. And Josh's real inspiration was his late Auntie Bev, a singer-songwriter whose songs Josh hopes to be able to share with the world one day.

His voice is his main instrument but Josh is a keen all-round musician and plays keyboards, drums and guitar – all of which he has learned by ear.

And, like many musicians of his generation, he has a recording studio in his bedroom, where he tries out new ideas and is starting to hone his own songwriting skills.

Josh's favourite Eurovision memory is last year's Eurovision, imagining being on stage like Alexander Rybak and his song, Fairytale.

Josh has a very eclectic taste in music and, amongst his favourite artists, he includes Muse, Michael Buble, John Legend and Robbie Williams.

Josh loves driving, ten-pin bowling and ice-skating.

For Josh, taking to the Eurovision stage and flying the flag for the UK is a proud moment.
